Last week Rayburn Sports team member Andy packed his bags, grabbed his passport and jetted off to Sportcamp in Loutraki, Greece to accompany staff and students from Farnley Academy on their long weekend of sporting adventure! With Greece’s world-renowned Olympic legacy, sunshine, fantastic sporting fixtures and time to take in the famous sites, it was set to be a Sports Tour to remember.
Have a read of Andy’s highlights from the trip:
Sportcamp continues to be one of my favourite places for School Sports Tours and with the recently updated sporting facilities and rooms, a menu created to suit each group, on-site staff who will go the extra mile, plus off-site visits to take in some Greek history and culture, it’s easy to see why.
“The facilities at SportCamp are amazing and perfect for a sports tour.”

First-rate Fixtures
Farnley Academy were quick to put the newly modernised multi-sport facilities to good use, playing football, netball, tennis, basketball and the staff even had a quick game on the squash courts. The school had two football teams and two netball teams, both playing at a skilful level so this would be a test for Greece!
The standard was well matched when it came to the football fixtures. Whilst the first fixture ended as an 8-2 win for Farnley after a brilliant second half performance, the rest of the games ended with one win, 1 draw and 1 loss so a really good test for all the boys involved.
The first netball team game went in Farnley’s favour thanks to the dedicated team, whilst the fixture against the second side from Athens was a close contest.
“My best moment of the tour has to be the sports fixtures we played. Our students really enjoyed the experience and improved immensely because of this.”

Top Excursions
Any trip to Greece would not be complete without taking in the some of the cultural pursuits. Here are just a few of my favourites from my time away with the school:
Panathenaic Stadium
– A must include excursion! Being able to run on the track of this magnificent stadium was simply awesome.
Acropolis
– An essential on the travel bucket list for any visitor to Athens.
Heraion Lake
– A great chance to relax and soak up some sunshine, take a dip in the shallow waters and enjoy some beach volleyball!
Thank you Farnley Academy!
All that’s left to be said is ‘thank you’ to Farnley Academy who were a fantastic group of staff and students. You were a credit to your school and we hope to have the pleasure of you travelling with us again soon.
“Superb experience thank you for a great tour.”
