Record Rhineland Tourism

Last updated: Jun 4th, 2024

Linked by the iconic river, the Rhineland is home to a host of cities and villages. It is the perfect place to visit if you are looking for the ‘real Germany’ atmosphere. With little English spoken in the region, you are guaranteed to be welcomed by the traditional German feel.

From extraordinary castles and palaces to traditional cobbled streets and architecture, it’s no surprise that this area of Germany has become so popular amongst tourists.

Tourism Reaches Record Numbers

Over the years, the Rhineland has seen a steady increase of tourists visiting the cities and villages. From January to September 2017, a total of 7.71 million overnight guests visited the Rhineland with the highest tourism times being throughout the summer months. This is an increase of 1.9% over the same period in 2016.

The city of Cologne had one of the highest increases in tourism in 2017 with an 8.4% increase of guests compared to 2016.

There is no sign that the rate of tourism is going to slow down anytime soon with more and more tourists continuing to flock to the Rhineland to admire the charming medieval towns and landscapes.
