This summer saw members of the Thurlstone Brass Band embark upon the organisation’s first ever trip abroad – a four day visit to Belgium. As well as experiencing the cobbled streets and winding canals that epitomise this country, the tour gave members the chance to perform in venues ranging from Bruges’ vibrant Market Square to the renowned Menin Gate.
Taking in the sights and sounds of the charming city of Bruges was the first order for band members, opting to explore the city by foot, canal boat and horse-drawn carriage before preparing for their concert in the main square.
With the weather being kind all weekend – dry and warm, but not too hot – Thurlstone Brass Band’s concert attracted a crowd of hundreds and their reception to the programme was overwhelming.

The final performance would not disappoint as members assembled at the Menin Gate to take part in the daily Last Post Association Ceremony of Remembrance. This was a moving experience for many of the band who rose magnificently to the occasion and received high acclaim after the event for their performances of “Prelude on Lavenham” and “The Day Thou Gavest”.
